The Urdu Academy of North America dedicated its literary event of December 15, 2013 to the life and work of great contemporary poet, Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui popularly known as Pirzada Qasim. Dr. Ghazala Ansari was the MC of the event held at the Chandni Restaurant, Newardk/Fremont CA. G.S. Falk presided over the event. Jawed Umarani was the chief guest. Arshad Rashid welcomed the guests on behalf of the Urdu Academy.
Urdu lovers who recited Peerzada Qasim's poetry included Ishaq Nagpurwala, Musarrat Sheikh, Meraj Sultana, Syed Babar, Manzar Islam and Tasadduq Attari. Pirzada Qasim's poetry was also recited by Hatem Rani, Abdus Sattar Ghazali, Ismat Kamal and Kosar Syed.
Prof. Lubna Manzar presented a maqala on the life and work of Pirzada Qasim which was taken from her father, Jazeb Qureshi's book, Takhliqi Aawaaz.
Dr. Ghazala Ansari had the privilege of attended many mushaeras Pirzada Qasim amused the audience with his unique style of poetical recitation. She also spoke on the work of Pirzada Qasim.
Pirzada was born on February 8, 1943 to a learned family in Delhi. After partition of subcontinent in 1947, he continued his studies in Pakistan and received his intermediate from D J Science College in Karachi and B.Sc (H) from University of Karachi. He earned his PhD from Newcastle University, England. He started his career as a lecturer at the University of Karachi and soon became a professor. He has been associated with the University's Department of Physiology since 1960. He also served as Vice Chancellor at the Federal Urdu University. He also served as the vice chancellor of Karachi University. He has written several books in English and Urdu, including Urdu poetry. He is currently working as the Vice Chancellor of Dr. Ziauddin University.
He started to write literary work from a young age. In 1956, he wrote an article for his school's writing competition and won the gold medal. He has written many articles on different topics. Many poets and authors have written articles praising his literary work. See more pictures on next page
